THE FRLN ‘M.A.C.K. ATTACK AWARD

Here at the First Responder Liaison Network (FRLN), Bill Mack was more than an advisor—he was a compass. In the early days of our vision to build a grassroots youth mentorship movement, Bill offered more than just guidance—he listened closely, encouraged us steadily, and helped shape the foundation of what we were building. He believed in the mission before it fully took form, and he brought to it the same steady, thoughtful leadership he gave throughout his life. He had mentored many over the years, but always had room to believe in helping one more.

To honor his impact, we created the M.A.C.K. Attack Award, named in his memory. This crystal award and wood plaque are presented at every FRLN Youth Leadership Camp across the country to the youth mentee who best reflects the four key traits Bill lived by:

  • Mentality – His selfless mindset that puts others first—even when he was at risk or uncomfortable.

  • Authenticity – Showing up humility, sincerity and meeting others as they are.

  • Competence – Demonstrating emotional availability, self-awareness and mastery of tactical skills.

  • Kinetic Leadership – Leading through action, not words—and willing to adapt to change to create success.

The crystal award is given directly to the youth recipient as a symbol of their growth and leadership. The wood plaque with the Mack semi-truck, is then engraved with their name, and remains with the FRLN Local Chapter that hosted the camp, becoming a permanent part of that Chapter’s legacy. At each future YLC, the goal is for the previous year’s M.A.C.K. Attack Award awardee—now an FRLN Youth Alumni—to return and present the award to the next young leader in line—continuing Bill Mack’s legacy of “leaders, building more leaders”.
